They have access to Squad Leader voice commands (default key "H"), allowing them to command their team this way, or simply communicating with them through text or voice chat. All Squad Leaders are also given the ability to mark Fire Support Coordinates on the battlefield for the Platoon Commander to use. Squad Leaders are given Fire Support Assist points when their mark gets a kill.

+An effective Squad Leader is on that can lead or work with their squad. A squad that separates in different directions aimlessly will become not as effective. If the Squad Leader can communicate with their team, it is likely that their squad members with cooperate with them. A Squad Leader should always try their best to provide spawns for their squad mates and to stick together. If the Squad Leader has control over their squad, they can contribute their efforts to the Platoon in certain parts of the battlefieldIt is necessary that the person who has this role is competent enoughbut if not, it should always be given to someone else, by promoting them to the role.

+=== South Vietnam Squad Leader ===
+Squad leaders of the Southern forces have access to the Purple Signal Smoke Grenade. This item allows the Squad Leader to mark Fire Support Coordinates. Unlike the default marking of fire support, the user is able to toss the smoke over or behind high positions such as buildings or walls in which normal marking cannot reach. These smoke grenades can reach as far as 30 meters. This Squad Leader should always stay alive as well, as they are the main source for spawning for their squad mates. If the Squad Leader dies, Squad members will be unable to spawn on them, forcing them to wait for them to be alive again or to spawn back at the default spawn. A good Squad Leader knows how to keep themselves safe from harm's way, hiding themselves in cover from the enemy to allow their squad members to spawn. It is vital that the Squad Leader prioritizes their own life over anything. Squad Leader also have access to marking Landing Zones for helicopters (default key "B+Middle Mouse Button).
 +
+If a squad member is promoted to Squad Leader while they are alive, all Squad Leader abilities will be inaccessible until the player is killed.

+=== North Vietnam Squad Leader ===
+Squad Leaders of the Northern forces have access to the Pick Mattock. This item allows them to build Squad Tunnels for their squad to allow them to spawn on that constructed position or to simply attack others with. The Squad Leader cannot build Squad Tunnels within certain range of an objective or near another Squad Tunnel. If enemies are near a Squad Tunnel, the team will be unable to spawn; it should be noted that any use of explosives or a complete enemy interaction on a tunnel will cause its destruction, giving a 30 second cooldown for building a newer Squad Tunnel. A Squad Leader should always update their tunnel when in bad positions or build a new one when none is available. The longer a squad operates without the tunnel, the farther back the entire squad is in progressing.
